Historic Run Volunteers
November 15, 2009
Ooooh, this sounds like so much fun but I am so shy! And didn’t I just blog about liking to run because it is a ONE person thing, being all alone with God and nature and all that happy crap?
So why is it when I read this in an email sent to me from Fleet Feet that I wanted to volunteer? I am crazy. I can’t make up my mind. I probably won’t volunteer for this because I am so shy. However, a part of me wants to do it just so I can step outside of my stupid comfort zone. A challenge so to speak.
It is for the Huntsville Rocket City Marathon coming up next month. Fleet Feet has put out the word for volunteers to take on a variety of tasks. This is just one of them:
Share Huntsville’s History with Rocket City Marathoners
The Rocket City Marathon’s “Historic Run of Downtown Huntsville” needs a few more tour guides to take our marathon running visitors on a running tour of downtown Huntsville. The Friday afternoon’s premarathon run is a 2 or 4 mile casual run, offered to Rocket City marathoners as an entertaining and educational prerace warm-up. Share the history and volunteer! There is a script–with cheat sheet–and a map for all tour volunteers, adlibs welcome. One training run is enough to get you started, but you are welcome to do more. The training runs are on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings with other times available. Each tour guide will take one group of 3-5 visitors. Even if you are running in the marathon, you can be a tour guide. Walking guides are welcome too. The marathon’s “Historic Huntsville Run” is truly a memorable experience for our running visitors and for those who conduct the tours.
I think I’ll stick to packet stuffing and flyer distribution.
But it is so tempting to go ahead and force myself to do this other; the historic run volunteers. I should totally make myself do it.
